The Promises and Perils of the UAE Constitution

The United Arab Emirates, comprising of seven states known as the UAE proudly highlights the Constitutional safety and security to its citizens as well as to the migrant people who work there or carry on businesses in various fields. The UAE would appear to be quite modern, with sky-rise buildings, beautiful roads, big shopping malls and so on. Factually, the UAE is ruled by an autocratic regime, with Abu Dhabi at the helm of affairs.

Criminal cases are framed against hundreds of victims, arrested, imprisoned, tortured and proceeded against the way the corrupt system of the UAE feels right. Judicial orders, based on actual facts and findings against the government functionaries they have made are never executed.

The Constitution of the country is appears to have been written with comic intentions. Hence it is time for the respective International organizations such as United Nations, the ICC and Human Rights NGOs to move against the perpetrators of United Arab Emirates

Interestingly it was the first time and probably the last, that an Indian businessman was able to win a case against the public prosecution in Abu Dhabi, UAE. ‘Where ignorance is bliss, ’tis folly to be wise’
Selecting the UAE as a member in the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) with the responsibility of strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them is truly a disgraceful situation, lacking honour and integrity and deliberately violating accepted principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Indeed it is good that the NGOs remind the UAE’s rulers that a commitment to Human Rights entails a commitment to take concrete steps, legislative and otherwise, to uphold the principles and standards of human rights law.
